Let's start with the good. The fit is sleek. It does a really good job tracking activity. If you want to know more about your runs and hikes, it's top notch. It tracks tons of cool stuff and delivers it in a nice outlay when I go hiking. For all the things it does, it does them well. What the Fit lacks it really lacks. Let's start with simple things like control over text messaging apps. My phone shouldn't unlock because I choose "mark as read" on my watch. Instead, my message should just be marked as read. Also, where are all the sports? How cool would the fit be if you could wear it during your golf swing and have it analyze it. Finally, there are a number of troubles with the charger. The Fit often sits and doesn't charge...and it's difficult to tell when it is indeed charging. The biggest reason why this will remain a niche product is because if it's ever going to be main stream, it needs some sort of ALWAYS ON ability! That's what keeps it from being a product I would use every day. And while I could see a lot of value just using it when I run and hike, I want more!

Good start to motivating yourself

Let me start off by saying that I am so happy to have gotten the Gear Fit2. It's a great way to start motivating someone to get up and active with it's hour interval push notifications to get up and stretch , because you don't realize how long you can be inactive for and how detrimental it is to your health. Now the Gear Fit2 is not perfect, this is a good start, but one thing to keep in mind with this and any other fitness tracker is that it is not an accurate representation of your actual steps and calories burned. Pros: -Inactivity notification: There are times where I'll be at my desk at work for extended periods of time and when I have the Gear Fit2 on it will remind me to get up and stretch every hour. -Step Counter: It's a nice indicator to try to ensure that I meet the recommended 10,000 steps a day. -Sleep Tracker: I like the feature of seeing how I sleep during the night, it tells you what time it believes you went to bed and woke up and whether you were experiencing motionless, restless or light sleep. -Weather: It can tell the weather for your area when connected to wifi, or the last reading before wifi disconnection. -Water/ Coffee tracking: You can input how many cups of coffee, and/or water you have throughout the day. -Heart rate monitor: It can give you an estimated resting range and active range reading for your heart rate. -Notifications: When linked to your phone you can receive text messages, phone calls and even push notifications from apps. Cons: Now for every pro that I've listed there is also a con for each, but the con can just as easily not be a deterrent for some people. The main con for the Gear Fit2 is accuracy, if you're a stickler for knowing exactly how many steps you walked and how well you slept then you will be disappointed with the Gear Fit2. If you want a device that is nice and gives you an estimate, even when it's thrown off by simple things such as washing and drying your hands and the watch counting it as you walking anywhere from 50 to 100 steps then you'll be satisfied with the watch. Another con for me is that you can't reply to messages on the watch or hang up calls, these all have to be done through your phone. Overall I'm glad to have the Gear Fit2, because it's a great starting point and motivation to look down at the watch and think, I need to walk more than to have nothing. Keep in mind that it should be viewed as a comprehensive tool to help get you motivated to be active.

The Gear Fit 2 is a wonderful fitness tracker as it helps me stay motivated to accomplish my fitness goals. The Gear Fit 2 provides me with the tools necessary to monitor my calorie intake, activities (i.e. exercises, sleep patterns, and heart rate), and weight manage loss/management. I use the My Health App and the Gear Fit 2 to record my daily calorie intake and activities (i.e. tredmill, walking, cycling, steps, heart rate, etc.). Though the Gear Fit 2 allows users to view and respond to notifications (i.e. texts, emails, etc.) directly from the device itself, the response options are limited to responses like: yes, no, maybe, can't talk right now, etc. As I use my GearFit 2 daily at the gym, I love how I have access to notifications and music directly with my GearFit 2. The Gear Fit 2, with its 4gb of internal storage, allows me to either transfer my own downloaded music from my S8 or stream music directly from my Spotify account onto the Gear Fit 2 itself. By syncing my wireless headphones to the GearFit 2, I can listen to music directly from the GearFit 2 without my S8 being present. Pros: Customizable, accurate HR monitor, tracks activities and sleeping patters automatically, music storage, Spotify connection, GPS. I love the new Gear Fit 2 and it's beautiful design/display. The screen quality is clear and bright. Can connect into Spotify directly from the watch and download your playlist directly onto the watch! What does this mean? You can leave your phone at home or in a locker when you're at the gym or on a run! Limitations: Poor wristband design as it easily comes off when I accidently bump my wrist onto something. This is a easy fix as you can easily change the wristband style. The Samsung Health App can be confusing to use in the beginning, but you will get used to it. Limited applications available for the Gear Fit 2. Poor battery life as it requires frequent charging Despite the limitations of the Gear Fit 2, I would still recommend it for those who are motivated to get back into shape and are in need of a device to monitor their fitness, sleep patters, calorie intake, etc. Everything you desire from a fitness tracker is on the Gear Fit 2, don't think twice about purchasing this device. Make your goals and dreams come true!

The Gear Fit 2 is the product that I didn't know that I needed. Smart watches always seemed like fluff to me, but now I am sold. First off, getting notification on your wrist is a must have feature for my career field. I can't have my phone out a lot of the time so being able to review messages on my watch is a life saver. The rest of the features are gravy to me. The gear tracks steps, floors climbed, heart rate, and calories burned. If it senses that you have started a walk or a run it will track the duration and distance. You can also manually tell it that you are beginning a workout and have it monitor your progress. All of this info is then synced with your phone through the Samsung Health App. The Samsung Health App allows you to track meals, water intake, coffee intake, and sleep. This all encourages a more healthy and involved lifestyle. The only gripe I had was when I initially went to set my watch up it struggled to get it's initial charge. It took my wiping down the back and getting it on the charger on just the right angle. Now everything works perfectly.

Gear Fit2 Worth It?

Samsung's Gear Fit2 is an offering into a popular segment of smart watches available. Basically it is a "smart" fitness watch that is used to keep track of daily exercise in regards to steps taken, water intake, heartbeat monitoring and even sleep tracking. This watch will run roughly about 3 days before needing a charge. Additional apps can be downloaded from the Samsung store including watch faces, functions such as alarm, timers, calendars, and more. It will alert you when you received a message or call when paired to your smart phone. This watch can be used alone or connected to the phone. Built in is 4 gig of memory for apps and music storage to play on the built in music player. Spotify is available as one of the apps for more music listening pleasure. The screen is OLED and is very responsive with good visibility in direct sunlight so outdoor viewing is not a problem. Screen can be turned on to view time with the flick of the wrist. An annoying thing I noticed was when driving as turning the steering wheel will turn it on causing a bright flash of light that can be glaring especially at night time. There is also no built in speaker on this watch. The only way to hear sound is to use bluetooth headphones otherwise the only way the Gear Fit2 interacts and gets your attention is through the screen and vibrations. Another con is that this watch runs off the Tizen OS so apps are limited compared to other android based watches. Replying to messages is also limited to preset short responses as there seems to be no on screen keyboard or handwriting recognition. Longer messages will not be displayed and result to the screen giving you a message of "See on Phone". Comfort while wearing the watch is wonderful.

Decent product but tricky to get used to

The Gear Fit2 does have a lot features and functions and when working well, it performs it's tasks with ease and efficiency. However, there are a few too many issues for it come across as a seamless tool. First off - when I first unboxed it, it took me ages (3-4 weeks) to actually be able to use it for the first time. There has been a known issue with charging when the battery is dead that required me to read a lot of forums in order to precisely get it on the charging port so that it would even charge. Once I was able to get it running - I did enjoy the feel and features the watch has to offer. However, after a few days, I have noticed that there are times where the watch doesn't quite function as I'd like - for example, it detected that I was in a dynamic workout while engaged in a board game or that a walk through Costco was considered cycling. I appreciate the tracking it provides but these little mishaps keep it from being a great, or even a good product. If the quirks were fixed, I'd be more apt to keep the phone/watch combo.

I got the gear fit2 for Christmas & absolutely love it! It's got all the features I wanted & it's slim so it doesn't get in the way like other bulkier ones I've tried. I gave it a 4/5 on design because the band pops loose all the time at work (as an EMT) & I'm worried I'll lose it! I wish it had a regular watch style band. I also gave 4/5 on performance due to the charger. I had the watch 3 weeks & the charger quit working & I can't find a new one on Samsung's website, so I had to order a cheap one on Amazon :(

I purchased to replace my fitbit and regret the purchase since it has never worked for its intended purpose.

Tells time, passes on notifications and alarms. Like how I can download different clock faces, but sorry I can't use my own photos as a background. (I have a Fallout 4 Pip-Boy display now. ROCK ON! Like the new charger base system. It's a big step up over the original Gear Fit's snap on thing. Like, no, love the ability to change the watch band. The old rubbery plastic bands gave me a heat rash. Interesting that I can store music on it, but a bit weird. Moving into the realm of Dick Tracy.

I love all the features & the ease of using them. I wish the technology would improve to keep the watch from shutting off or freezing up during a run. It's happened several times & it's frustrating! The style could definitely use an upgrade as well. When I bought the Gear Fit 2 I was so disappointed that it didn't offer the option of using my picture gallery for the screen on the watch like the original Gear Fit. I feel for the price I paid my watch shouldn't freeze or completely shut off multiple times. Overall, I love the watch just wish it was more dependable on my runs.

love this gear fit. My workouts have been way more intense since I got it this past Friday. It tracks my heart rate and intensity during peak heart rate. It also tracks calories burned. steps and floors climbed. I can also answer the phone, listen to music, all without having to touch my phone which can stay nearby or in my bag. pretty cool.

Messed up after 6 months

I loved this watches features, except the band gets loose and will fall off if you rub against anything. I just noticed after 6 months it has developed a growing black splotch on screen. I baby this watch because it was expensive!! I have MS so it helps me to be more active. It takes 3 apps on my phone to use it!! I have no storage left on my phone now. But the black growing splotch is a big concern since it is starting to cover my screen. Really, for the price I expected to have this watch for years not months. It was a BIG expense.

Whats to say... very poorly designed smartwatch....? Is it really a smart watch though? Its certainly not a watch although it can imitate one. A watch is resistant to liquids, This junkpile is not... ie. sweat, shower, rain... therefore completely useless as a watch. Its not very smart either... everyday it counts my drive to work as 250-500 steps really... you can't disable yourself when going over 10-15 mph... People don't walk 60 miles an hour and want to count the steps. Sent in for warranty and they said that this is just a piece of junk and they don't have any kind of replacement or excuses for this junk pile so just forget it ever had a warranty also hang up this piece of paper to show everyone else that this junkpile is not covered when it just stops working for apparent reason. I LOVEDD the find my phone feature, this was awesome and highly usable quality in this device but the other issues were just too overwhelming.

I put the device to charge as soon as I received it, but the lighting bolt symbol would show up for a split second then disappear. I tried to mount it in different kinds of ways and cleaned the charging prongs, but it still would not charge properly. I decided to just leave it on the dock overnight, but it did not charge at all. Now the lightning bolt doesn't even show up. I was reading online and a lot of people seem to have this problem. Don't get this watch, it is not worth all the time spent trying to charge it long enough to power on.

Brand new, straight out of the box, my Gear would not power up OR take a charge. I sent it in in March 2017 for repair (instead of replacement) and now 4 months later it is doing the same thing so I have to send it back in. I like the features though the step and floor tracking is questionable but I think that's true with most activity bands. Also, it randomly changes the home screen as I'm moving about for no apparent reason. To make this change, you typically have to go to 2 other screens to make that happen. Not so on my Gear, it just seems to do it on it's own. I was so excited to get this product and I've been sorely disappointed. Maybe time to try a new brand. :(

The Fit is ok, the only thing I have to complain about is the calorie counter. It is off by a lot and it will not reset. It is counting burned calories while on the charging dock. When I put it on, it is saying that I have aleady burned 1200 calories. This is the main reason why I bought the watch. So if you are buying it to track calories, I wouldn't recommend it. If anyone have suggestions about it please let me know. But as of right now, I give this product 3 stars.

Very disappointed--floor count extremely inaccurate and battery life abysmal

Very disappointed--purchased two identical Gear Fit 2s for my daughter and me two weeks ago. I really want to love this product--it has a beautiful screen, personalization options, and is a great interface with my Samsung Galaxy S6 (messages and e-mails display perfectly and are easy to read, as opposed to my other brand's product). However, now for the reasons this product is highly disappointing: 1. The floor counter is wildly inaccurate--on average, I climbed 167 floors every day last week--NOT! This morning, after going down and back up our flight of 14 stairs once, I received credit for 20 floors (even if the elevation difference is 9ft, it should have counted no more than 2 floors). I then did a factory reset and quickly received credit for 5 floors when I was on the same floor the whole time. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated problem--the Samsung and other fora are full of complaints with exactly the same problem, but there is no Samsung support or resolution on Samsung's own site. The watch has never gotten wet and we live in very low humidity, so the barometer should work perfectly out of the box. To make matters worse, my daughter's identical product works just fine. 2. Battery life is at best 2 days...and, I only run basic apps, only turn on Bluetooth when I intend to sync with the phone or exercise, always have Wi-Fi off, and even use "do not disturb" mode at night. With minimal use such as this, I should get at least 3 to 4 days of battery life. Bottom line, I am highly disappointed. Based on our personal experiences and numerous customer complaints, it appears there are defective Gear Fit 2s that impact the barometer and, therefore, floor count metrics. There is no acknowledgement or fix by Samsung. Battery life (at normal use) is very overstated, and I can't even get close using minimal features and turning off bluetooth, etc.

I love all of the features that this device provides. There is only one issue, it causes a rash on my wrist and it takes quite a bit of time to clear. I have not been able to wear it for a few weeks now. I tried wearing it yesterday and the rash came back immediately. Not sure how to solve that problem. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to think before purchase. Unfortunately!

I bought this watch and it was pretty good at first. Battery life was lower than what is advertised, only lasts about one day before I needed to charge it. I noticed that the watch clasp kept loosening, it fell off a couple of times and I experimented with different settings and lengths because of that. I finally got fed up with the band so I started looking for a new one online, Just when I had ordered a new band. I was outside in a parking lot and while I was walking the band unloosened and the watch just shattered instantly. I'm VERY disappointed in the way that this expensive watch was destroyed all because of a faulty design in the clasp.

It keeps track of my workouts, sleep, heart and pulse rate, time, allows me to see calls or messages and I do not need to carry my cellphone. Once I have the wristwatch and the cellphone next to each other, the information is transferred by Bluetooth. Great investment. I strongly recommend it.

Samsung Gear 2 has amazing potential, but it was released before it was ready. Much of the issues can be overcome through software updates so there is still hope. Here is a list of function bloopers after 1 week. 1. Text notification on watch: i get them from September, 5 months ago, the same ones every day. I deleted them in my text history, older texts replaced them. 2. Drive mode: Always turns on automatically, but never when I'm actually driving. 3. Step counter. Everyone knows these are inaccurate. 4. Floor counter. One morning I had more floors than steps. Enough said. 5. Battery. Recharger is unique, that sucks. Battery is about 48 hrs. 6. Can not turn off any of the above underperforming functions.

This is my second Gear product. I had the first Gear and was very pleased with it. But this one is such a step up, everything about it is great. I recommend this to enyone who wants to improve their health. I just love it!

I've had the Gear 2 for about 3 weeks and I'm still trying to determine if I like it or not. Some of the features, such as automatically detecting exercise does not seem to work. It will only take my heart rate when I'm at a dead standstill and I really wanted a heart rate monitor for when I'm also active and exercising vigorously. It is supposed to monitor heart rate during activities, but it doesn't seem to work on mine. Spotify app does not work; needs to be debugged. The "canned" Samsung music is lame. I had to remove some add on apps, such as MyFitnessPal and MapMyRun because it would kill my battery in a matter of hours. I also wore it to bed last night and it said that I only got 1.5 hours of sleep when I know I got about 8 hours. I really wanted this activity tracker to do everything as specified, but it comes up short. Disappointed. Thinking about swapping this out for a Fit Bit Charge 2.

This review is for overall and design because we didn't have it long enough to judge the rest. 4 days after giving this as a gift for Christmas the band came undone and fell off my wife's wrist without her noticing it. I bought this after seeing it at the store and liking the features and appearance, wish I would have waited and read the reviews. Reports on all websites selling this product about this issue. But my report was the first that was reported. Laughable. Purchase at your own risk.

the gear fit does everythings its advertised to pretty well. my only complaint is the limited availibility of apps to expand its functionality. also, itd be cool if it had a mic and the potential to accept voice commands. for the price id expect a little more functionality than what this offers, and more support for apps and accessories from samsung. you dont even offer an extra charger.

I really like the device, but the steps and floors don't count right. It counts steps when i am not even moving. Same will the floors, it counts floors when i haven't been up any steps. If it was more accurate I would be perfect.

I was really hoping to upgrade from my fitbit ONE and was VERY disappointed. It seems to count floors as one step up. my fit bit sees the floors accurately . I typically show 15 - 20 stairs per day in my 3 story house but the Gearfit2 counts over 200. I take my own heart rate which is average of 75. The GF2 records it as being much higher. The steps I take per day are somewhat close to the fitbit depending on the day. Overall I was VERY disappointed and have no way to return or exchange since I can't find a receipt...............so it sits on my dresser and my fitbit remain my activity tracker of choice even though it won't record heart rate. I did like the fact that it would remind me of phone calls or texts coming thru. I didn't put any music on it so can't report on that aspect. Not sure what my plan is for it. will call Samsung for advice.....very expensive lesson in what not to buy. I love my Samsung TV's, and cell phones and DVD players etc. I guess they just don't have good trackers - unless I just got a defective one.

Great watch for step counting and working out

This is an overall great sport watch and does really well at counting steps and giving calorie breakdown etc. A few minor problems are there is no charging plug just a USB to charge the phone and makes it so I have to steal one from another device in order to set up the charger on the bedside table. Second the watch does a poor job of giving you heart rate updates when you start a workout which is when you would care about what the heart rate actually is. It would be nice if while you start a workout with the program it would keep tabs on your heart rate lets say every minute or something like that. That way you could get an average. I am very happy wth this watch however and have enjoyed it so far.

Anything samsung is great. This device connects with my phone and notifies me of incoming calls, text messages, emails and private facebook messages, along with giving the exact time and date. There are many other apps that you can select to be notified of if there is activity. I can't live without this watch!

I recently started to track all my "fit" needs. I already have a Samsung 7. I compared this to other fit bands and this by far had more features that I would use, for example the music syncs right to my phone. I love Samsung products, we have other products in our home as well. Thank you Samsung for helping me get fit!

This was a surprise from my hubby to be. Ive always wanted one. I looked at the cheaper models that don't connect to your phone, and saved up for one. He got this for me and I'm am SUPER happy I waited! Love all the options that come with it, and the fact I don't have to get my phone out just to see a text or email is amazing!
